Nigella Lawson often shares her recipes and meals on her Instagram page, which has a staggering 2.6 million followers. While fans love to see her content, some were less than impressed with her recent dish consisting of pig trotters, mash and a side of kale.

The 61-year-old chef admitted it wasn’t entirely cooked by her as the pig trotters, a treat often fed to dogs, had been pre-made.

She wrote: “I know this hardly looks like my kind of cooking, but that’s because it isn’t!

“Along with my @hgwalter butchers’ order, I got a heavenly premade (by @pierre.koffmann, no less) pig’s trotter with proper French mash and Madeira gravy (oh, ok then: jus).”

Nigella said she steamed and sliced the trotters and warmed up the mash and sauce.

“The cavolo nero is my own little contribution. Different for me, but richly delish,” she added.

Many of Nigella’s fans flocked to her post to share their thoughts.

Those who weren’t impressed included Allsouledout4all, who wrote: “I don’t feel very good about this comment of yours. Someone cooked it and you presented it. What’s the drift?”

Annie Whitie commented: “The one thing my mother always said, ‘There’s not one part of a pig goes to waste’ you can eat every part of them. I draw the line at feet and tails.”

Stephen Burke 82 penned: “I’m sorry Nigella, but that’s the one thing I can’t abide by that I know you love. B****y pigs feet.”

Majaiwanek tweeted: “Yuck one step closer to being vegetarian again after seeing food like this.”

Others were in favour of the dinner.

Renatobie penned: “Such an underrated part of the pig. Is delicious.”

Nigella is no stranger to a controversial recipe.

Last year, she revealed she loved a poached egg on top of a leftover pizza.

On her social media, she shared a snap of her unusual treat, writing: “Now this is what I call a breakfast — leftover pizza from my Friday night order, reheated and topped with a poached egg and a splodge of chilli crisp.”

This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were split by her creation as they discussed it on the show.

She said: “I’m kind of loving all of this I have to say, but this week she has divided food fans again by suggesting breakfast of an egg on top of a leftover pizza.”

Showing the snap to viewers, Holly continued: “So this is the picture of the egg.

“So you get your pizza from the delivery, you wait for it to go cold and then you pop an egg on it.

Phil savagely added: “It looks like something that’s just been run over by a car.”
