Netflix releases exhilarating new trailer for Diana: The Musical

Netflix has released the first trailer for Diana: The Musical, which will release on the streaming service in October ahead of resuming Broadway previews the following month.

Stage star Jeanna de Waal takes on the role of the Princess of Wales in the production, which spans from before the icon married into the royal family to her life in her thirties.

The exhilarating trailer for the stage production sees many stages of the late royal's life replicated, including her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 and the birth of their first son Prince William the following year.

Speaking of taking on the role of the beloved princess, Jeanna previously revealed that she "devoured" scores of old YouTube videos of Diana as she was only a child when she tragically died.

Jeanna noted one eight-minute clip of Diana with her sons William and Prince Harry, stating: "She's not speaking, but you can see the way that she's caring for Harry and William, and how she relates to them. How she watches so intensely."

She added to PEOPLE magazine: "She doesn't seem distracted by anything. She's very present in every single moment that she's involved with."

The theatre actress also admitted that it was essential for her to nail beloved Diana's mannerisms as the audience were "going to decide within the first two seconds" if they "buy it or they don't".

"If they don't buy it, it's going to be hard for them to enjoy the story and get lost in it."

Meanwhile, Princess Diana's life is also being taken to the big screen, as Hollywood star Kristen Stewart portrays her in the upcoming biopic Spencer.

The film Spencer – in reference to her maiden name – will depict the Princess of Wales' troubled marriage to Prince Charles and focus on a critical weekend in her life when she decided she was going to file for divorce.

The movie is set for release in November and is already racking up positive reviews from critics.

Diana: The Musical will premiere on Netflix on October 1.
