Neil Young Reveals Album Release Dates, Says Tour Now ‘Questionable’

Neil Young has announced that his long awaited album Homegrown will be out on April 18 and also revealed the scheduled release dates for four other records this year.

Young recorded Homegrown way back in 1975 but declined to release it as he felt it was too personal for him to deal with then.

“Homegrown vinyl in the house right now. Finished records!” Young wrote on his website. “Homegrown is all analog! The purest sound. Hear the vinyl. Get a nice phonograph player. This is the record to do that on!”

He added, “My first ever narration with Ben ‘Longgrain’ Keith and live sound effects. Some beautiful music and fun rocking’ songs as well. This is the one that got away. I am stoked to share this with you.”

Young said Return to Greendale, a live LP with Crazy Horse that was recorded in 2003 during a performance of his rock opera “Greendale,” will be released on June 19.

He also said Archives Volume 2 will be out on July 24, a Crazy Horse recording from 1990, Rust Bucket, will be out on October 16, and a 1971 solo Young Shakespeare, will arrive on November 27.

However, Young said his proposed North American tour with Crazy Horse is doubtful because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We find ourselves looking at this uncertain world, with our Crazy Horse Barn Tour booked and ready to announce the first leg, [but the] idea of announcing the tour and putting tickets on sale is questionable and needs to be thought through,” he wrote on his website.

Acknowledging that many fans “have been waiting almost 10 years” since he last hit the road with Crazy Horse, he noted that he and the band “are all super ready to go…the last thing we want to do is put people at risk, especially our older audience. No one wants to become sick in this pandemic. So here we are together, watching to see how it goes, how long it will last, and how many more of our planet’s people and animals will be affected.”
