Recovery: The singer, 43, took to the stage alongside her band mates in Dublin, as they kicked off their nationwide reunion tour in fierce style following a recent eye infection

There had been doubts over whether the star would still feature on the tour, after she was rushed to hospital with the complaint she had become ‘totally blind.’

Mel was rushed to hospital after going blind on Friday, just days before the Spice Girls reunion tour was due to kick off.

The singer arrived at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital and told medical staff that she was ‘totally blind’ and ‘couldn’t see anything’ after losing vision in her right eye.

Mel is already unable to see out of her left eye due to botched laser surgery, which took place 20 years ago.

A source told the Sun: ‘Mel was in a really bad way. The other girls and their managers were really worried.

‘Mel was frantic and screaming that she couldn’t see a thing. She went to the hospital in a chauffeur-driven car with an assistant, who was holding her hand.

‘No one knew what brought it on but she had very swift, and very good, treatment.’

A source has since told MailOnline: ‘Melanie has received specialist treatment.’

The insider suggested that it is currently unclear whether Mel’s alleged loss of vision was linked to her previous problems with bungled eye-surgery.

They added that after arriving at the hospital, Mel was later transferred to Luton and Dunstable Hospital’s ophthalmology department and left once she could see again.

A spokeswoman for Mel told the publication: ‘The situation with Mel is under control. She is looking forward to the tour.’

This wasn’t the first time the Spice Girls’ tour was thrown into jeopardy, as earlier this year the tour hung in the balance after Mel claimed she had sex with Geri Horner during the height of their fame in the nineties, reportedly leaving the pair on uncertain terms.

She continued by shouting ‘cut the c**p’, before making a bizarre comment about racism as she claimed she was ‘allowed to be [racist]’, she said: ‘Everyone knows I’m racist, I’m allowed to be I’m black.’
