Malin Andersson's fans have praised the reality star for opening up about her previous six-year battle with eating disorders.

The 26 year old took to Instagram to share a photo of herself from when she was just a teenager competing in beauty pageants.

In the snap, Malin dons a green tight-fitted dress with a plunging neckline while her hair is blow-dried into a wavy style.

But while she may be smiling to the camera, the outspoken mental health advocate said she was actually "dying inside".

Malin, who recentlylaunched her very on mental health column with OK! Online, captioned the photo: "Seeing as my first Mental Health column is out with @ok_mag and it’s on ‘body image’ .. I felt compelled to show you what I was talking about.

"Dead behind the eyes. Smiling when I was dying inside. If only the time I wasted being unhappy with myself was actually me content and thriving. But this is what life’s lessons are all about. LEARNING."

She continued by explaining that she was a completely different person back then, when all she cared about was what she looked like on the outside.

Malin, who recently shared a disturbing photo of her domestic violence experience, explained: "I find it hard to see who I was. It’s like I’m staring back at a different person. All I cared about what how I looked like.

"All I wanted was validation. I wanted these strangers to tell me how beautiful I was, and if they didn’t it would mean more starvation."

The Love Island star went on to list the number of problems her eating disorders caused in her life, including stomach aches, arguments with parents, skipping meals, dizziness and binge smoking.

But ultimately, she said, it caused her to feel lonely. She continued: "This all means nothing to me now because I know happiness means EVERYTHING to me. What do you choose?"

"Be brave and take that one step to freedom and serving yourself the self-love you never knew you had," she added alongside a red heart emoji.

Many of her 538,000 followers were quick to praise her brave honesty and couldn't help but notice just how different she looks in the photo.
