Lucy Verasamy, 40, took to Twitter to inform the social media user that “hot air” can contain more moisture, which can lead to “intense” storms occurring. The post from the weather forecaster followed a message online that revealed Workington village had been hit by lightning multiple times, alongside horrifying video footage of the incident.

Expect intense rain

The fan initially posted: “The storms up the north-west seem to be really bad especially round here. #lightning has struck my village 7 times. Here’s a video from workington earlier in the evening. #thunderstorms.”(sic)

Lucy replied: “Hot air can hold more moisture/rain – so expect intense rain/thunder & lightning in places.”

The video comes as Cumbria was warned storms would hit overnight, with warnings from the Met Office in place until Thursday.

Meteorologist Bonnie Diamond warned: “It’s a worst-case scenario – a caution, really, for what could happen – but we are looking at a potential for 150mm rain in three or four hours.”

Many also commented on the shocking footage, as they worried about the safety of one particular house that appeared to be hit repeatedly by bolts.

One wrote: “Is this house ok?”

Another replied: “That’s ridiculous.”

A third commented: “Lightning hit their window. Hope they’re ok.”

Lucy has recently been enjoying a break in Scotland, as she escaped the searing UK heatwave which saw temperatures in the south reach record highs.

To celebrate turning 40 the star took some time off work, and was pictured enjoying a cup of tea in the great outdoors.

On social media, she shared a beaming snapshot of herself on a wooden bench in front of a hillside mansion.

The sky looked gloomy as clouds lingered in the skies, in comparison to southern areas, which faced bright sunshine all weekend.

She captioned the post: “Escaping the heatwave…”

Before adding several hashtags that showed she would be spending her mini-break exploring the secluded area.

“#summer #Scotland #northernScotland #nc500 #ad #heatwave #visitScotland #sutherland #socialdistance #secluded #secretbeaches #mountains #stunningscenery #staycation,” she included.

The weather forecaster is known for keeping much of her personal life private.

In the past, Lucy has even been linked to rival BBC weather presenter and friend, Tomasz Schafernaker.

After Lucy posted a snap with him to her Instagram, fans incorrectly suspected the pair were an item.

However, it appears, for now, the star is single and enjoying keeping fit, as she can often be spotted doing various exercises on her page.

Recently she shared herself performing a “cheaters hand-stand” while in the gym.
