Lucy Alexander marked her 50th yesterday with low-key celebrations with her immediate family due to the coronavirus lockdown. The former Homes Under The Hammer presenter spoke out on Instagram on her first birthday without her beloved mum.

The small screen favourite was supported by a whole host of famous faces after she shared a moving message with her 42,000 followers.

She uploaded a smiley shot of herself, wearing her blonde tresses down with sunglasses perched on her head and wearing a black leather jacket.

Lucy admitted in the caption: “Never thought this day would come. Not sure if I’m happy or sad!

“Wow thanks for all your kind birthday messages. It’s going to be a calm one celebrating in these strange times.”

The mother-of-two went on to discuss her plans and pay tribute to her mother, who died recently.

She continued: “I’m going to actually get dressed and put make-up on today… to sit in my lounge later. More eating and drinking with the family.

“Miss you today mama my first bday without you… I know you are with me.

“I will be looking out for a little robin #birthday #fifty #celebration #familytime #stayhome.”

Lucy reiterated her thoughts in view of her 34,000 Twitter fans, exclaiming: “It’s happened. Flipppin eck. Thanks for all your kind birthday wishes.

“Looking forward to waving to my friends ‘one at a time’ from the end of my drive!! #fiftyinlockdown.”(sic)

Close pal Eamonn Holmes was one of the first to reply, writing: “Here’s to many Happy Returns lovely Luce. It’s like yesterday when we were marking the same for me…

“Tempus Fugit, so make the most of what’s ahead,” qutong the Latin phrase, meaning time flies.

It came just hours after Lucy had reflected on what she was doing a decade ago, a difficult time again for her family.

She spoke of her daughter Kitty, who she shares with husband of 20 years Stewart Castledine. They also have a son, Leo.

The star remembered: “This time 10 years ago on the eve of my 40th bday it was cancelled due to a virus that paralysed my daughter and put her on a ventilator.

“Exactly 10 years on another virus-attacking our world. Nhs staff deserve more. Thank you for saving lives. I will invite you all to my 60th.”
