Love Island star Zara Holland has apologised to the people of Barbados after being arrested for attempting to flee the country.

The 30 year old former Miss Great Britain winner issued an apology after she and her boyfriend Elliott Love reportedly broke quarantine to attempt to fly to the UK after her beau tested positive for Covid-19.

A statement on behalf of Zara has now been issued, where she claimed the rule break had been a “massive mix-up and misunderstanding”.

The statement, published by Barbados Today news website, said: “I firstly want to apologise to the entire country of Barbados for what has been a massive mix up and misunderstanding during my most recent stay.

“I am currently working with the local authorities to rectify any issues on my part and will issue an update and full statement which I think is the only right thing to do to the Government and citizens of Barbados.

“I have been a guest of this lovely island in excess of 20 years and would never do anything to jeopardise an entire nation that I have nothing but love and respect for and which has treated me as a family.”

Zara and Elliott had planned on celebrating New Year in Barbados and were tested for the virus after landing on the island.

According to The Sun, Elliot tested positive for coronavirus and the pair were given red wristbands to wear, but cut them off and attempted to flee to the airport.

It’s alleged the pair have been held on suspicion of breaking coronavirus regulations and face a £18,000 fine each and possibly up to a year in prison.

Zara later tested negative for the coronavirus and was released to a hotel, according to The Sun.

An insider told the publication: “They were pacing up and down inside the perimeter.

“Zara spent most of her time crying and was very distressed.

“She provided a second negative result on Thursday and has been allowed to leave.”

Elliott’s brother Harvey told MailOnline: “Zara is out of quarantine. She is in a hotel”.

Meanwhile, it’s understood that Elliott remains at a specialist Covid-19 facility in northern Barbados.

Elliott must stay at the facility for at least ten days and provide two negative tests before he can leave.

Zara and Elliott were detained by police after they attempted to flee the country following Elliott’s positive test result.

Island chief medical officer Dr Kenneth George told The Sun: “There are three tourists who are of special interest. Two are in quarantine and one in police custody.

“Two were apprehended at the airport. This is a police matter and I trust that the appropriate evidence will be submitted.”
