Love Island winner Amber Gill has told ex Greg O’Shea to keep his £25,000 prize money following their split, saying the breakup was a “blessing in disguise”.

The couple took home the £50,000 prize money after winning the ITV dating show this summer, but split just weeks after, with Amber now revealing that she was “disappointed” after Greg ended things via text just hours before she was due to fly to Ireland to see him.

The Newcastle beauty, 22, has now candidly discussed her split from rugby player Greg, 24, after fans demanded that he gives her back his share of the prize money.

Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine about the money, Amber joked: “Nah, he can keep it.

“I needed someone else to win and we won it together. I don’t hate him, I’m just disappointed in him, really.”

She added: “All I'd wanted was a little bit of effort on his part to come to London or Newcastle to see me, and we'd had a discussion about that a couple of days before. And then he texted me on the day I was supposed to fly to Ireland.”

Moving on following the breakup, Amber vowed to focus on her work, after landing a £1million deal with fashion brand MissPap.

“I think in the future I'll look back on this as a blessing in disguise. I can focus on work and spending time with my family and friends,” she added.

Amber added that it was “never possible” for her relationship with Greg would last long-term, with him living in Ireland and the former beautician splitting her time between Newcastle and London.

“I don’t know what people were thinking but it was always the case that he was in Ireland and I lived in Newcastle,” she explained.

“Did people expect him to move there straight away or me to move over to Ireland? That was never possible and we both have opportunities to focus on.”

Amber defiantly added: “You don’t need to be in a relationship at all. I think if you’re going to be with somebody they have got to enhance your life, otherwise there’s no point. Being by yourself is amazing – it is powerful.”

Amber’s words come after Greg discussed the split while speaking on Ryan Tubridy’s Radio One show in Ireland, saying he knows the “truth” about what happened in the relationship.

He said: "Amber's doing great stuff over in the UK. I can be happy with myself that I know the truth and I know what’s happened.
