Louis Tomlinson says he is now in a ‘good place in life’ following the tragic deaths of his mother and sister in little over two years.

Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, the One Direction singer, 27, opened up about grieving for his mother Johannah Deakin and sister Félicité and how he channelled his feelings of loss into his music.

Johannah lost her battle with leukaemia in December 2016, aged 43, leaving behind Louis, Félicité and their five siblings.

After tragedy: Louis Tomlinson says he is now in a ‘good place in life’ following the tragic deaths of his mother and sister in little over two years (pictured with sister Félicité, 18, who died in March from an accidental overdose)

In March this year, the family was hit by further devastation when Félicité, 18, accidentally died from an overdose of cocaine, an anxiety drug and painkillers.

Discussing the ways in which his grief influenced his songwriting process, Louis said: ‘I had a couple of things in my personal life which made momentum a little bit more difficult, naturally.

‘I touched on [grief] with ‘Two of Us,’ but I definitely kind of told that story with that, I felt like I needed to get that off my chest creatively in my songwriting because around that time, it was hard for anything to feel more important, obviously, than that.’

The Just Hold On hitmaker continued: ‘I feel like I’m in a good place in my life, and naturally with that comes happier songs. So I think it all depends on what headspace you’re in, really, at the time.’

Louis bravely took to the X Factor stage in December 2016, days after his mother’s death, to perform Just Hold On, in honour of Johannah.

Simon Cowell praised his performance, telling him: ‘Louis, what you’ve just done and the bravery that took – I just respect you so much as an artist and as a person. Your mum was so looking forward to tonight and I know she is watching down on you now. She was so proud of you.’

Johannah had split from Lottie, Félicité, Phoebe and Daisy’s father Mark in 2011 and was married to doctor Dan Deakin in July 2014. They welcomed twins Ernest and Doris the same year.

Last month an inquest heard that Félicité  accidentally overdosed on a ‘perfect storm’  of cocaine, OxyCodone, and alpraxolam [Xanax].

Félicité was found collapsed and lifeless at her fourth-floor studio apartment in Earls Court, west London, in March.

After hearing Miss Tomlinson had turned to drugs following the tragic death of her mother three years ago, the coroner recorded a misadventure verdict.

The inquest heard aspiring fashion designer Felicite, originally from Doncaster, fell into depression and started abusing drugs following the death of her mother.

She was found collapsed in her bed by her schoolfriend Zainab Mohammed after they had bought and taken cocaine the night, the inquest heard.

A statement read out by the coroner stated that Felicite, known as ‘Fizz’, had used a number of drugs in the lead-up to her tragic death.

At the time of Félicité’s death, friends of Louis said he was left ‘devastated and distraught’.

A family source said at the time: ‘Felicite was an absolutely adored young woman who was loved by Louis and her whole family. She was a loveable, caring, bright, passionate, popular and beautiful young lady.’

Shortly after her death, her sister Phoebe posted online: ‘Words don’t even begin to describe how shocked and broken hearted we all are. You were my best friend, sister, motivator and person that could make me laugh until I cried.’

Another sister, Daisy, added: ‘It was only a few weeks ago that we were sat on the sofa bed at 3am drinking tea, eating French fries and chatting about the future. You told me about all your plans. We were excited.

‘I pushed you away when you tried cuddling me, I thought I would have so many more chances to do that. I would cuddle you a million times over if you were still here, with me. Protecting me from this cruel world.’
