Not even Lizzo can shine all the time.

The 31-year-old singer took to social media to talk about her occasional depression, telling her followers that opening up about one’s emotions to others can be life-saving.

It started on Thursday, when the Juice performer revealed on her Instagram that she was feeling “sad af” at the moment, writing:

“I self-love so hard because everything feels like rejection… it feel like the whole world be ghostin me sometimes. Sad af today. But this too shall pass. S/O all the messages of love. Thank you.”

The message came in a caption to a video Lizzo posted, which included the text:

“I’m depressed and there’s no one I can talk to because there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Life hurts.”

Ugh. We’ve all been there before.

But, as the artist quickly learned, sharing her feelings led to an outpouring of love and support from fans and fellow stars — including SZA, who replied:

Amen.

As it turned out, a little love was all Lizzo needed to bounce back from her blues.

She returned to IG on Friday to share her reaction to the overwhelming amount of support — as well as the important lesson she learned in the process — writing:

“I learned in the last 24hrs that being emotionally honest can save your life. Reaching out may be hard but as soon as I did it, I was immediately covered in love.”

The performer went on to explain how the experience changed her entire perspective on the relationship between joy and sadness, noting:

“I used to think of sadness as a constant with fleeting moments of joy in between… but it’s a wave joy sadness joy sadness and my sadness can be as temporary as my joy. I went on live to have a discussion about triggers. My triggers are: rejection and inadequacy. But I love that I’m more emotionally honest lately. I love that I can use my sadness constructively in real time for gratitude.”

Sounds like she’s re-wired her thinking for the better!

Lizzo’s message came complete with a clip from her Instagram Live, in which she cried while discussing the importance of emotional honesty.

She said as she started to shed tears:

“I know that something real incredible is about to happen and something incredible has already happened. I know that I am just in between that incredible moment. I use sadness so constructively in the last two years ever since I have been working on being emotionally honest. I’ve used sadness as a tool for gratitude. It’s humbling and I’m grateful to feel these emotions because, because I know that because of this sadness I am going to be able to feel joy.”

Keep shining, gurl!
