Liam Payne’s mum fights tears and is ‘worried sick’ as he’s rushed to hospital in Italy

Liam Payne was rushed to hospital in Italy for 'emergency treatment' after suffering from agonising kidney pain while on holiday with his girlfriend.

And, understandably, his mum is trying to stay strong but she fought back the tears as she revealed Liam's family are all 'worried sick' about his health.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Karen Payne said, "We are all worried sick about it but we just have to get on. It’s horrible – him being all the way over there. He’s in Milan and it sounds like he’ll be there for a week. I feel helpless."

Karen, who is from Wolverhampton, said that she could only "hope for the best" as there is "nothing [she] can do."

"We feel helpless. It’s such a horrible situation and we just hope he’s in the best place possible," the 62-year-old said.

It was reported last night that Liam faced an emergency dash to hospital while visiting Lake Como in Italy with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy.

The couple were there to celebrate their one year anniversary, but the former One Direction star started to feel unwell.

Doctors are said to be looking into the issue after he was rushed to A&E in an ambulance.

Liam was then checked into a hospital ward for emergency treatment, where he is set to stay for several days.

OK! have contacted Liam's representatives for comment.

The star's health has already caused concern in recent months as Liam, who is dad to Bear who he co-parents with his ex Cheryl, admitted he was suffering from recurring problem with his kidneys, and it led to him cancelling a tour last month.

In what would be his first solo tour, Liam was forced to posted a heartfelt video to his Instagram account to explain why it wouldn't be going ahead.

He admitted it was due to a “serious kidney infection” which left him spending time in the hospital. The dad-of-one then apologised and explained he started rehearsals but was advised that it was “not the right time” to be going on tour due to his health.

Liam explained in the caption that he had “no other choice” but to postpone the tour and that his “serious kidney infection” is not something he would “wish on anyone”.

"Doctors orders are that I now need to rest and recover.

“I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To all of you who have bought tickets: I’m so sorry. We’re working to re-schedule the tour as soon as we possibly can, but for now we will be refunding the tickets – so please look out for updates from your point of purchase," he emotionally said.

We wish you a quick recovery, Liam.
