Kirstie Alley’s death prompts Twitter users to share the star’s ‘heartless’ condolence message to Stephen Hawking: ‘You had a good go at it’

Kirstie Alley’s passing prompted many social media users to Tweet ‘you had a good go at it… thanks for your input.’ 

The former Cheers star’s death was announced on Monday by her children True, 30, and Lily, 28, as they shared she fought a brief battle with cancer before passing at age 71.

Right after her death was announced, the phrase began to emerge from many users on Twitter, who were actually quoting Alley’s own condolence Tweet to Stephen Hawking.

The Scream Queens star shared the message in 2018, after the renowned theoretical physicist passed following a lengthy battle with ALS. 

Hawking’s passing inspired many celebrities and public figures to express their gratitude for his contributions to the world.

However, Kirstie’s Tweet received backlash for what many deemed to be its ‘heartless’ tone.

The controversial message was subsequently deleted from her social media platform. 

Though it seems many people still haven’t forgotten, as users Tweeted out the phrase on Monday. While some simply repeated the exact phrase, others added in a ‘RIP Kirstie Alley before sharing the quote.’

There was also a user who wrote, ‘Stephen Hawking meeting Kirstie Alley at the pearly gates all like ‘hey girl, you had a good go at it… thanks for your input.’

Alley’s family said that she ‘was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.’

They continued: ‘As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.

‘We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care.’

Alley had not been seen in public for some time with her last-known picture seen during a video in early September as she promoted her profile on Cameo on her Instagram page. There did not appear to be any visible signs that she was ill and appeared with her signature mane of thick blonde hair.

In April of this year she had performed on the television show The Masked Singer.

The latest: Kirstie’s friend John Travolta, 68, took to Instagram Monday to pay memorial to the actress, writing ‘Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had’

Alley’s relatives said that ‘the zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.

They ended the statement in saying, ‘We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.’

Alley’s friend and confidante John Travolta took to Instagram Monday to pay memorial to the actress, who he worked with on the Look Who’s Talking films.

‘Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie,’ said Travolta, 68. ‘I know we will see each other again.’

Alley shot to fame in the sitcom Cheers which she joined in 1987. She was a Hollywood stalwart for decades, but had not been seen on the big screen since 2015.

A number of celebrities took to Twitter to pay memorial to Kirstie Alley in the wake of news of her death at 71 following a brief battle with cancer. 

Alley’s ex-husband Parker Stevenson, who she was married to from 1983-1997, posted a poignant memorial in which he said she ‘will be missed’

Alley’s friend and Look Who’s Talking costar John Travolta said, ‘I love you Kirstie’

Alley’s Cheers costar Kelsey Grammer said in a statement, ‘I always believed grief for a public figure is a private matter, but I will say I loved her’

Jamie Lee Curtis called Alley ‘a beautiful mama bear in her very real life’

Oscar-winner Marlee Matlin called her late friend ‘complex, energetic, animated and hilarious’ in a tweet
