Kate Winslet’s lookalike daughter Mia Threapleton, 22, dazzles at BAFTA bash – after Hollywood’s latest nepo baby won rave reviews for I Am Ruth

She’s the daughter of A-list actress Kate Winslet.

Yet Mia Threapleton looked every inch a star in her own right as she attended the 2023 Vanity Fair Rising Star BAFTA’s pre-party at JOIA in London on Thursday.

The 22-year-old actress, who was recently praised for her portrayal in Channel 4 drama I Am Ruth, was no doubt delighted to be surrounded by a sea of other talented stars on the evening.

Mia looked the spitting image of her mother Kate, 47, as she slipped into a one shouldered little black dress that highlighted her toned pins.

Coincidentally, the gown looked similar to the one Kate had worn at the 2016 BAFTAs where she picked up an award for her portrayal of Joanna Hoffman in the biopic Steve Jobs.

Mia wore her golden locks in loose waves and completed the look with a pair of patent black heels that boosted her frame.

She was flying solo at the event, with Kate nowhere to be seen after their triumphant turn in I Am Ruth.

In the TV drama Kate portrays concerned mother Ruth, who tries to help her teenage daughter Freya (Mia) overcome a mental health crisis after becoming consumed by the pressures of social media.

Viewers were quick to praise the pair for their ‘powerful’ performances in the drama when it aired in December, which they described as an ‘important’ portrayal of mental health and social media.

I Am Ruth follows the success of two previous I Am series, offering distinctive single films exploring the experience of women in moments that are emotionally raw, thought-provoking and personal.

It marked the first time that Kate has worked alongside her daughter, who she shares with film director ex-husband Jim Threapleton.

Speaking about working with Mia, Kate recently admitted that she was ‘blown away’ by her daughter’s courage on set.

Appearing on Lorraine, Kate, a veteran in the film industry, said her daughter Mia didn’t need her advice and would even tell her to ‘shut up’.

The proud mother gushed that her daughter has a ‘power’ that she herself never had as a young actress as she spoke about the experience of working with Mia.

She explained: ‘As far as performance, she didn’t need me at all. There are even moments where she’d look at me and go, ‘Shut up Mum, let me do it!’

‘It was really amazing working alongside her and actually being blown away by her courage… she’s very, Very powerful.’

‘I think this young generation of actors, I have to say there is a naturalism to their acting and they’re just braver,’ she added.

‘They have a voice, they speak up for themselves and they have a power that I feel I never really had.’

‘I am very very proud of [Mia], very proud of her indeed,’ Kate added.

The Mare of Easttown star also admitted there was ‘some overlap’ between her real-life role as Mia’s mother, and starring as her on-screen parent in the drama.

‘Naturally there was going to be some degree of overlap. We just wanted to make something that would hopefully resonate with people,’ she said.
