I'm A Celebrity All Stars Sneak Peek

Phil Tufnell, 56, is no stranger to globe-trotting, and even toured New Zealand as part of a post-retirement TV series with fellow cricket legend Brendon McCullum, 41.

In an unearthed interview, the well-travelled star admitted battling “Delhi belly” while visiting India, but despite the grim health issue, still insists his trips to America were more disappointing.

Prior to journeying to South Africa to compete in I’m A Celebrity for the second time, Phil spoke out on feeling “let down” by the USA.

In an unearthed interview with the former Question of Sport presenter from 2017, Phil explained why he’s never fully bought into the States.

The former England cricketer revealed he was relieved that his 50th birthday trip to Las Vegas was only for a few days.

He told The Telegraph: “I went to Las Vegas for my 50th birthday celebrations, and although I enjoyed it while we were there, four days was enough.

“I’m not sure why, but I have felt in the past a little let down when on holiday in America.

“That is probably the only place I have not quite got on with.”

The star also adorably shared in 2013 that his wife, Dawn, is his “ideal travelling companion”.

Phil told The Independent at the time: “She looks after me and we always have a Bloody Mary whatever time of day it is on holiday, even before we get on the plane.”

However, the retired sportsman was left a bit envious of his other half when she got to spend more time at the best hotel they’d ever stayed in: The Palazzo Versace on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Phil’s success in I’m A Celebrity proved to be a double edged sword, as after being crowned King of the Jungle in 2003, he couldn’t enjoy the luxury hotel for as long as his eliminated campmates had.

He continued: “I only stayed for three days, because I was off in the jungle doing I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here but my wife spent two weeks there and had a great time.

“The couple of days I did spend there were very nice indeed.”

I’m A Celebrity South Africa will start on Monday 24th April at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
