I’m A Celeb star Vernon Kay broke down into tears as he was ’emotionally drained’ and missed family

Vernon Kay has revealed he broke down into tears while in Gwrych castle for I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! after feeling physically and emotionally drained.

The 46 year old, whose daughters baked him cookies ahead of his return, explained that he tends to cry at movies so all bets were off when heading into the harsh conditions of the show to take on gruelling challenges.

The TV presenter had been apart from his wife Tess Daly, 51, and kids Phoebe, 16, and 11 year old Amber for over five weeks after contestants had to isolate for a half a month before heading into the camp.

"I still cry at Forrest Gump, so I expected to cry while I was on I’m A Celebrity. I even cried in the interview I did at the start of the series," he explained.

Vernon, who recently pined for his wife Tess as he watched her on Strictly before their reunion, went on: “And when you’re in there, you are emotionally drained because you are missing your family.

"I felt comfortable with that group of ­people that I could cry. I didn’t think about trying to stop myself from ­getting emotional."

“You are physically drained, too. We were eating nothing but rice and beans most of the time. I lost two and a half stone – that’s weight I didn’t really have to lose," he added to The Daily Star.

Strictly host Tess previously revealed Vernon's phenomenal weight loss as she took to her Instagram stories to show off the big food haul she did in Waitrose ahead of his return from Wales.

Tess revealed that after three weeks of living off mainly a rice and beans diet, Vernon lost 30 pounds in weight.

And so, Tess made sure the fridge was packed with all of Vernon’s favourite food as she wrote on Instagram: "Vern told me he’s lost 30lbs in weight.

“So I’ve been shopping to get some of his fave foods ready for his return… mostly meat, chocolate, and of course his favourite @yorkshiretea bags."

Tess’ Waitrose shopping bag was full to the brim with delicious produce including bacon, meatballs, pasta, pancetta, a Turkish delight and Vernon’s beloved Yorkshire Tea bags.

Vernon came in third place on I’m A Celeb, with Radio 1 DJ Jordan North coming in second place and Giovanna Fletcher becoming the very first Queen of the Castle.
