Huge clue that Harry and Meghan have already responded to Charles’ Coronation invite

04/12/2023

The Coronation of King Charles is just weeks away, and there are still a number of questions surrounding the attendance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex previously confirmed that the couple had received an invitation, however they are still yet to publicly announce whether they will be in attendance.

Following their invite, Harry and Meghan have reportedly been in conversations with Charles and Buckingham Palace, sharing a series of demands for a possible trip to the UK.

These demands are said to include an appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony with the other royals and, perhaps most importantly for the couple, that their son Archie’s birthday is recognised.

And while it's unclear if these demands have been met, it's likely that the Sussexes have already privately RSVP'd, with the Telegraph reporting that those who received invitations to the historic event were required to RSVP by Monday 3 April.

This means that the Sussexes, and other guests, will have sent their responses by the beginning of the week.

It comes after US President Joe Biden declined his invitation, with his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, attending instead.

A White House statement read: “President Joseph R Biden Jr spoke today with King Charles III, underscoring the strength of the relationship between our countries and the friendship between our peoples.

“The president congratulated the King on his upcoming coronation and informed him that First Lady Jill Biden looks forward to attending on behalf of the United States. The President also conveyed his desire to meet with the King in the United Kingdom at a future date.”

While the President may have never been expected to attend, despite receiving an invitation, there are still many questions surrounding the attendance of Harry and Meghan.

Writing for the New Zealand Herald, royal commentator Daniela Esler has suggested that the King is "damned if the Sussexes do come, and equally damned if they don’t" as the pair could end up overshadowing the event.

However royal commentator and PR consultant Richard Fitzwilliams has suggested that the Sussexes will "overshadow a lot of the run up" but not the day itself.

Speaking to OK!, he said that organisers of the Coronation will “control” the Sussexes as they did during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June last year so there is no chance of them “overshadowing” anything on the day.

He also argued that they have no choice but to attend, telling us: "Here’s their mistake, they’re obsessed with controlling PR and controlling the narrative. The only reason they get work – work for Netflix, for Spotify, work for Random House – is because they’re royals.

“Now if they were to emphasise their isolation by not attending a royal event, that's as important as a Coronation as well, it would be something that would adversely affect their contracts, I would have thought, or certainly the renewal of any contracts.

“So they’ve got to attend. They have no option but to come."
