After leading his team back from an 18-point deficit, he won his first rookie start, becoming the first in Giant’s history to do so since 1980, and earned the nickname “Danny Dimes.”
David Cutcliffe, who previously coached Super Bowl champions Eli and Peyton Manning, also coached Jones at Duke University. Eli Manning previously mentored the young quarterback in college, which could have been a factor as to why the Giants took a chance on him.
Since the rookie’s first incredible start, he has since had some rocky games with several interceptions. However, fans are convinced that the Giants are moving forward with him as the face of their franchise and have no plans on benching him for Manning.
Nonetheless, the rookie has expressed that he learns from his mistakes, which should give the Giants’ fans hope for the future. Outside of football, Jones rarely posts on his social media accounts, so not much is known about his personal life, including if he has a girlfriend or not.
How old is Daniel Jones?
Born May 27, 1997, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jones is currently 22-years-old. He has an older sister, Becca, a field hockey player at Davidson College, a younger brother named Bates, who also attends Davidson College, where he plays basketball, and Ruthie, the youngest sister who is a Duke soccer player.
Daniel Jones’ college and NFL performance
He played the quarterback position at his high school, but, despite his incredible performance, was not ranked entering college. Initially, Jones committed to Princeton University, but he chose to continue his football career at Duke University.
In 2015, the young quarterback redshirted his first year and then started the following year. At the end of his junior year, Jones was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2017 Quick Lane Bowl.
He earned another MVP title during his senior year before graduating in 2018 with a degree in economics. In the 2019 NFL Draft, the New York Giants drafted Jones with their first pick and sixth overall.
The young quarterback started the first preseason game against the New York Jets, where he had an incredible performance but was named Eli Manning’s backup.
On Week 3, Jones started against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and, after leading his team back from an 18 point deficit, earned him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week and the “Danny Dimes” nickname. Currently, in Week 10, Jones has started every week over Manning so far.
Who is Daniel Jones married to?
Jones is dating Ella Bonafede, a lacrosse player for Duke University. While he hasn’t posted much of his girlfriend, she has documented several moments, including the young quarterback’s first start, his graduation, and his 22nd birthday.
Quite fittingly, his girlfriend is a native of New York, and she’s very active on her Instagram as she frequently posts adorable moments of them together. It does not appear that either of them has any children.
