Hairy Bikers Si King and Dave Myers, admitted they had a bit of a barney in a Woolworths in the middle of Namibia. The admission comes after they looked back at their hugely-successful working relationship and how they’ve only ever fallen out over very small things before putting their differences aside and getting back to being best buds.

We had a bit fo barney in the very first programme in Namibia

The pair, who are exploring Northumberland in tonight’s episode of The Hairy Bikers Go North on BBC, sat down with fellow chef Simon Rimmer for the latest episode of their Heart & Sole podcast, who also has a lengthy on-screen partnership with his co-star Tim Lovejoy.

Dave began: “People ask us two as a pair; they always ask, ‘Have you ever fallen out?'”

There were some giggles among the trio before Simon exclaimed: “Course you do!

“I think over the 15 years we’ve worked together, we’ve never had a serious falling out,” he recalled his relationship with Tim.

The two began working together in 2006 when they presented Something for the Weekend and they currently appear alongside each other on Sunday Brunch every week.

“I think sometimes we’ll sulk with each other a little, but over nothing!” he said.

“It might well be that one of us has dropped one of us in it during the show – we’ve said something in rehearsals then they’ll reveal it on the show and you’ll think, ‘Ahh I didn’t really want my family to know I’d done that or said that.’

“But we’ve never had a proper falling out.”

Si and Dave then opened up on their own partnership.

After meeting on the set of TV drama The Gambling Man when they both worked in production, they soon realised how much they had in common, from food and drink to motorcycling.

That was back in 1995, and the rest is history.

However, looking back at their many years together, there is only one argument that comes to mind – and it was something they both put down to nerves.

“We had a bit of barney in the very first programme in Namibia, where we’d gone to do a food programme,” Si remembered before chuckling about what it was over.

“[It was in] Woolworths over the choice of oil to put in our mayonnaise to go with our crocodile satay!”

Simon roared with laughter as Si continued: “But that was just nerves really.

“That was back in 2004 and we can honestly say until then, it’s been pretty easy really!”

The Sunday Brunch star wondered whether age is a factor when it comes to falling out with people.

Si replied: “You become more tolerant.

“Is it tolerance or you can be a**ed making the effort? Simon asked.

“I think its both!” Si shrugged.

“I think it’s that happy blend of, ‘I cannot be a**ed’, and life is tough enough as it is without the drama of something else!

“Then there’s the sort of tolerance and maturity that anyone as they get older brings to a relationship – whatever that relationship is – and it’s lovely.

Episode 6 of The Hairy Bikers Go North airs tonight at 7pm on BBC Two.
