Maisie Williams, 25, broke down in tears as she discussed her tough childhood that left her filled with “pain, dread and fear” at a very young age. The actress, who played Arya Stark from the age of 12, began by opening up about how her father and mother separated when she was four months old.

Talking to Dragons’ Den’s Steven Bartlett on his The Diary of a CEO podcast, Maisie said: “I have had a traumatic relationship with my dad and ever since I can remember. I have struggled sleeping.”

As she expanded more on her troubled beginnings, Maisie said she experienced “a lot of traumatic things” but “didn’t realise they were wrong” at the time.

Maisie then said that she hit her toughest point when she was just eight-years old.

When things were at their worst, a teacher noticed that something was wrong and was prompted to take action.

Maisie continued: “It had met its peak and when I was at school I was taken by a teacher to the staff room. She asked me what had happened.

“She asked me if I ate breakfast, I said no, and asked if I did most mornings. I said no. They were asking the right questions.”

As Maisie spoke to Steven, she became emotional recalling her painful story and broke down in tears at several points.

Steven consoled her and gave her a hug. Then, Maisie explained that she is now in a better place.

She concluded: “To be honest, I have been thinking about this a lot – it’s not because of me that these bad things happened when I was a child.

As well as Game Of Thrones, the 25-year-old has also had roles in Pistol, Two Weeks to Live and four episodes of Doctor Who.

Despite her success, Maisie previously admitted that she “resented” her role as the iconic HBO character.

She explained to GQ earlier this year: “I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn’t express who I was becoming.

“And then I also resented my body, because I wasn’t aligned with the piece of me that the world celebrated.”
