Sarah Ferguson has paid an emotional tribute to her “devoted friend” Lisa Marie Presley – who hasdied suddenly aged 54.

The Duchess of York, known by her nickname Fergie, said she was “deeply saddened” after the singer-songwriter passed away following a cardiac arrest.

The 63 year old royal, the former wife of Prince Andrew, had a close friendship with Lisa Marie, who was the only daughter oflegendary rock star Elvis Presley, and referred to her as her sister.

Posting on Instagram, Fergie wrote: “I say hello to you everyday and I love you my sissy and I will continue to say hello to you everyday. You were my sissy, an amazing mother to Ben, Riley, Harper and Finley and a superbly loving daughter to Priscilla.

“You have been my devoted friend for many years and I am here for your family to support and love them. I am deeply saddened my sissy, you are in my heart.”

Mum of four Lisa Marie wastaken to hospital for medical treatment after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest on Thursday. She died the same day, her family confirmed in a statement.

Her devastated mother Priscilla said: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.

"She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers."

Lisa Marie's death comes days after she attended the 80th annual Golden Globe awards on Tuesday, where actorAustin Butler took home the best actor award for his portrayal of her famed father.

Speaking at a pre-ceremony event, she said she had been “overwhelmed” by the film and the effect that it had.

“I’m very proud and I know that my father would be very proud… I’m overwhelmed with gratitude,” she added.

Lisa Marie lived in Calabasas, California, after moving back to the US in 2016 following a six-year stint in the UK.

In 2010, she relocated to East Sussex, where she lived on a 50-acre farm just outside of the quiet village of Rotherfield.

Lisa swapped her mansion in Los Angeles for a 15th-century manor house, which was heavily guarded, in the English countryside after deciding shewanted to "embrace village life".

Lisa Marie is survived by three daughters – Riley Keough, and twins Finley Aaron and Harper Vivienne Ann.

She was married to Riley’s father Danny Keough between 1988 and 1994, before going on to marry Michael Lockwood in 2006.

They welcomed their twins two years later but went on to file for divorce in 2016.

As well as welcoming Riley with first husband Danny,Lisa was mother to son Benjamin, who sadly died in 2020.

The 27 year old’s death was later ruled as suicide by self-inflicted gun shot wounds.

At the time of his death, Fergie penned an emotional Instagram post to Lisa Marie, saying: "You stayed with me in my darkest moment and I am here in yours…

"Love you my sister Lisa Marie… wherever, whatever I am with you, in all steadfastness."
