Emmerdale actress Michelle Hardwick has taken to social media to share details of the horrific homophobic abuse that she receives online. The 42-year-old is married to the ITV show’s producer Kate Brooks and together they share a son Teddy, one, who they conceived using IVF two years after marrying in America. But the actress, who plays Lizzie Hopkirk in the soap, has now shocked fans after revealing some of the outrageous homophobic slurs she has had.

In view of her 110,600 fans, the star highlighted some of the awful abuse she receives.

Posting screenshots of messages, the star detailed how she had been called a “d**e” and “l***o” by one troll.

Challenging them to reveal themselves, she wrote: “Come on, show us who you really are… I dare you!”

Responding to her wife’s post, Kate wrote: “Hi ‘Michael’, the original Prisoner Cell Block H called from 1985 – they’d really like their insults back. Thanks a mill.”

Michellle’s Emmerdale co-star Lisa Riley – who plays Mandy Dingle – didn’t hesitate to wade into the comments to defend her friend.

She wrote: “This rages me beyond words… toxic, vile, rancid… what are they hoping to gain??

“Other than being LOATHED in today’s world, this is just not acceptable at all!!!” she fumed.

Emmerdale star Laura Norton also chipped in, adding: “Vile bile. Coward. Boils my blood.

“Love you. X,” added the Kerry Wyatt actress.

Fans of the star also displayed their horror at the homophobic abuse the actress was receiving.

One wrote: “How bl**dy awful I’m so sorry you are getting this abuse, sending love xx.”

Another added: “Oh my god, this is awful, lots of love and support to you and your gorgeous family Michelle.”

While a third penned: “I’m sorry you are getting nasty comments – you are an inspiration to the community.”

Following the outpouring of love for her from her fans and the LGBT community, the star thanked her followers for their support.

She wrote: “Overwhelmed by all your beautiful supportive messages.

“I honestly don’t take it to heart, I just like to highlight it every so often.”

She added: “Thank you to every single person who took the time to message me whether I know you personally or not.

“I promise I’ll read them all.

“Happy Bank holiday,” the star signed off.

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm.
