Back in the good old days, Koshy and Dobrik were the YouTube ‘It’ couple that everyone absolutely loved. The two seemed to complement each other perfectly, with a shared silly sense of humor, a close mutual friend group, and the same inhabited space online. As a result, our hearts collectively broke when the couple announced their split in 2018 (via BBC). And it definitely shook up fans. According to Seventeen, their breakup video had more than 56 million views as of September 2019. That’s a lot of broken hearts.

Despite their very public relationship, there are still some details about the former social media power couple that you might not know.

Throughout the duration of their time together, the pair made their relationship very public, regularly making videos together on their respective YouTube channels and referencing each other on social media. Over the years, they developed a mutual friend group that ultimately became one of the biggest sources of their online content, the group literally profiting off of their hilarious antics and ridiculous situational comedies (via YouTube). Koshy and Dobrik couldn’t resist giving in to some fun YouTube trends, which made audiences love the pair even more. Some of the comments read, “this is literally the cutest and funniest video ever,” and “omg, cutest couple on the internet.”

In his interview with Seventeen, Dobrik laughed and admitted that he and Koshy met at a Hollywood party and “bonded over the fact that we couldn’t drink because we were underage.”

Koshy and Dobrik made the decision to keep their breakup a secret for nearly six months. However, the news eventually took social media by storm with a very public video of the details of their breakup (via YouTube). In very Koshy and Dobrik fashion, it’s very lighthearted, but it’s still clear that the two were absolutely heartbroken about the news — so heartbroken, in fact, that during the video, they indicate that they needed to take a two-hour break to compose themselves. It’s at this point in the video that things become even more raw and emotional. “It wasn’t healthy for us to continue to be together, for now,” David shared in video, adding, “Liza broke up with me because she felt like we’ve been kind of distant because we’ve just been so busy. Period. And, as much as I hate to admit it, I was feeling that on my side, too.”

In an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Koshy discussed her former relationship (via YouTube). “We had such an amazing relationship,” she explained. But on why they waited six months to break the news? “We wanted to heal first. We wanted to give ourselves some time … but still be able to create online. So for those six months, we took that time for ourselves to grow.”
