Demi Lovato Says Their Relationship With Ex-Fiancé Max Ehrich Allowed Them Find Their True Identity

Remember when Demi Lovato was in a whole-ass engagement with their ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich? Sadly, the relationship became incredibly messy towards the end and Demi had no choice but to break it off, but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise because it allowed them to find strength outside of being with someone.

“I was able to stand on my own two feet without needing someone else to validate me or to make me feel accepted,” Demi said on their 4D With Demi Lovato podcast. “And when I said goodbye to that relationship, I also said goodbye to everything that was holding me back from being my most authentic self.”

Not addressing Max by name, Demi said they “met someone and I got into this straight relationship, and that was great, but that led me to ignoring all the parts of myself that I didn’t think were digestible for my partner at the time, who ended up becoming my fiancé.”
