Chris Hughes has reportedly found that his bust-up at the National Television Awards has had repercussions.

The former Love Island star was involved in a high profile punch-up with a photographer outside the O2 Arena in London last month, as he took exception to the snapper being there.

The 27-year-old former footballer was thought to be involved with Sport Relief's The Heat Is On Challenge, but has seemingly been dropped after the incident as he was not included in the line-up.

The Sun has reported that Sport Relief organisers were due to include him in the TV line-up for the challenger but got cold feet after the punch-up.

Chris was set to start a 100-mile trek across a Namibian desert this week, alongside Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, The Saturdays singer Frankie Bridge and ITV's Judge Rinder,

It has been reported that Sport Relief bosses contacted Chris to discuss whether he was the right person to join the challenge and his participation was withdrawn.

A source told The Sun: "The fact this incident occurred so close to the challenge meant there was always the risk it could be a distraction."

Chris had been at the NTA's to support his girlfriend Jesy Nelson, as the Little Mix star won an award for her BBC Three documentary Odd One Out.

BBC One are set to the air the challenge in the build-up to Sport Relief on March 13.

The celebrities involved were due to face crossing a frozen lake in Mongolia by means of trekking, skating and cycling.

This was changed at the last minute due to coronavirus fears, so the challenge has moved to a desert location instead.

A spokesman for Comic Relief confirmed to The Sun that there had been a u-turn on Chris Hughes but declined to say whether the NTA incident had been the deciding factor.

He said: “There were plans for Chris Hughes to be involved, but he is no longer taking part.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Chris reportedly told the publication that it was "filming schedules" that had scuppered his chances of being involved.

They said: “Chris is gutted it didn’t work out.

“It was a mutual decision and he has been invited to discuss future projects with Comic Relief.”
