Brad Pitt insists he writes own acceptance speeches after winning big at Oscars

Brad Pitt has insisted that he writes every single one of his award show speeches – and he’s ‘put some real work’ into them.

The actor has currently been enjoying success at this year’s annual awards season, picking up gongs at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and most recently, the Oscars.

And now Brad has revealed that speeches are something he’s felt ‘really tentative’ about – so he tries to make them the best they can be.

‘Historically, I’ve always been really tentative about speeches. They make me nervous,’ he said at the press room at the Oscars on Sunday night.

‘So this round I figured if we’re gonna do this, [I’m going to] put some real work into it, try to get comfortable, and this is a result of that. I definitely write [them].’

And although Brad has plenty of celeb pals who could help him out with his speeches, he says they would sound better ‘coming from the heart’.

While accepting his award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood at the Oscars ceremony, the 56–year-old took the time out to dedicate his win to his children: Maddonx, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, whom he shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie.

He stated: ‘I’m not one to look back but this has made me do so, but I’m a bit gobsmacked.

‘I think about my folks taking me to my first drive-thru, taking me to see Butch & Sundance, and moving out here, Geena and Ridley giving me my first shot.

‘All the wonderful people I’ve met along the way, to stand here now – Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, ain’t that the truth.

‘This is for my kids, who colour everything I do. I adore you.’

His co-star, Margot Robbie, also read out on a speech for him on his behalf, when he could not be there to pick up the gong for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs earlier this month – which compared his love life to the UK finally leaving the European Union.

‘Brad couldn’t be here tonight due to family obligations, so he asked me to read his response to for him,’ she said.

‘He starts by saying, “Hey Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club! Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement.”

‘He then says, “Thank you to the Academy for this extreme honour.” He says he’s “always been a bit intimidated over here given the Royal Academy Of Dramatic Arts and the titans that have come before, so this is especially meaningful.”’

And that was just the latest of a few comedic acceptance speeches Brad has given recently, after telling close friend Leonardo DiCaprio he would have ‘shared the raft’ with him in Titanic, to quipping that his latest role wasn’t a stretch for him as his character is ‘a guy who gets high, takes his shirt off and doesn’t get on with his wife.’
