Comedian Bill Bailey and his dance partner Oti Mabuse will perform an Argentine Tango routine to a song from Phantom Of The Opera this evening. Ahead of their performance, the professional dancer was given a warning on social media, after some fans claimed they knew what could spark a dip in votes for each celebrity.

Those behind the Keep Dancing podcast, an unofficial Strictly release, suggested stars of the show get less votes when their face is covered up during a whole routine.

This is of particular concern for Oti as Bill will most likely wear a face covering to get into character for his Musicals Week number.

Erik, also known as the Phantom of the Opera, famously wears a white half mask in most versions of the story including the stage adaptation.

Promoting their latest episode, the podcast’s twitter account shared a warning to Oti, who won last year’s competition.

“We’ve got a message for @OtiMabuse,” it began, “Make sure Bill doesn’t wear a mask for the whole routine!”

“What if it’s a sparkly mask????” the Strictly pro replied.

“Sparkly is great, but we’ve noticed that there’s a dip in the public vote if the celeb has their face covered up for the whole routine,” the post went on to say.

“Weird, but it’s a thing,” it continued.

“The Phantom can do a reveal, right?” they asked.

“I shall take that into consideration,” the reigning champion remarked.

Oti won last year’s competition with ex Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher.

He was a late admission to the line-up after her original partner Jamie Laing unfortunately received an injury in the launch show.

Jamie is on great form in this year’s ballroom dancing competition and has gone through to the quarter finals along with Bill and four other couples.

Last week, Bill and Oti performed an energetic Jive to One Way Or Another by Blondie.

They received 24 points for their routine, the same score as Jamie and his 2020 partner Karen Hauer.

Bill has become a bit of a dark horse in the contest, with many famous faces throwing their support behind the 55-year-old.

Former contestant Michelle Visage is the latest person to declare Bill their favourite.

Speaking at the Attitude Award ceremony this week, she said: “Oh my god, I’m so in love with Bill Bailey.

“How could you not be in love with Bill Bailey, I didn’t see that coming.”

She went on to say that Bill had blown her away, adding he is “100 per cent” most likely to win.

Strictly Come Dancing continues today at 7.15pm and tomorrow at 7.25pm on BBC One, hosted by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
