Beverly Knight performs on Strictly

Beverley Knight has slammed claims she was miming on Strictly Come Dancing’s results show on Sunday night.

The singer took to the stage to perform her new single I’m on Fire as Katya Jones and Gorka Marquez danced alongside her.

As Beverley, 50, belted out her hit, many took to X, previously known as Twitter, to claim she was not singing live.

Now, hitting back on the platform, she wrote: “Hello everyone who was watching #Strictly tonight!

“In the entirety of my career, I’ve never EVER mimed a note. Not once. The slay is real people, note for note.”

A second added: “At least get someone on that isn’t miming like a ventriloquist’s dummy.”

“Dear God how bad is Beverley Knight miming this song.. And why the need to she’s brilliant,” a third wrote.

Amongst the negative comments, however, were many positive ones praising the singer’s performance.

Contestant Layton Williams wrote: “Slayed. So fab to see ya. Big love xxx.”

A sixth penned: “You were smashing and most definitely on fire! Sounded so good with the choir!”

Beverley also received compliments about her appearance on the evening on a post of her posing backstage.

The singer’s performance came ahead of the latest Strictly results being announced.

Jody Cundy became the third contestant to leave the show after a dance-off with Eddie Kadi.

Speaking about his time on the show, he said: “You know what, when I signed up for this I thought what an earth am I signing up for and we did that first live show and I absolutely loved every second of it.

“And just being able to dance and do something I’ve never done before and get completely out of my comfort zone.”

He went on to call his professional dancer partner Jowita Przystał an “amazing person”.

She added of Jody: “I hope from now on, when you go out, when you hear the music, you’re not going to hide anywhere. You’re going to go on that dance floor and you’re going to give it all.

“And I hope, one day when you look back at all of this, you will say to yourself I’m proud of myself, because that will be my biggest achievement.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.35pm on BBC One.
