BBC Strictly Come Dancing star snubs fellow competitors online including partner

Nigel Harman has snubbed his Strictly Come Dancing competitors on social media and isn’t even following his professional partner Katya Jones, leading to speculation about a feud. However, she is following him alongside her previous celebrity partners on the show including Tony Adams and Nicola Adams.

Nigel only follows 13 people on Instagram, although the official Strictly Come Dancing account does make the cut. By comparison, although Angela Rippon only follows 73 accounts, a big percentage of those are Strictly related including the judges.

Despite the huge Strictly presence on her account she does not follow Nigel. Outside of Katya, several of his Strictly co-stars now follow him including Layton Williams’ professional partner Nikita Kuzmin.

Nigel is set to return to the show tonight for the finale which could be awkward given his lack of engagement with the others on social media. His Instagram handle @themeditatingactor hints at what his 87,000 followers can expect from his posts.

Indeed, most of his posts relate to meditation and he encourages people to sign up to his mailing list via a link to his website. On the site he states that “meditation isn’t only for people with shaved heads and orange robes. It can help anyone live a more relaxed and fulfilled life”.

In September he alluded that Katya had been allowing him to meditate in rehearsal and had previously spoken of his love of meditation during the Strictly launch show.

As host Claudia Winkleman spoke to him and Katya about their pairing, she said she loved the fact that he had “a secret weapon to keeping calm”.

“I meditate yes. So sometimes I take a moment to have a breath which seems to be a good idea here because things can get very showbiz very quickly,” he stated.

Although he was one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball, Nigel was forced to drop out of the competition due to injury.

Just hours before the quarter final it was announced that he was quitting for medical reasons.

He and Katya had been due to perform a Charleston to Step in Time from Mary Poppins for the musical-themed show.

However, a spokesperson for the BBC said: “Unfortunately Nigel has sustained an injury which means he is unable to perform in tonight’s show and has had to withdraw from Strictly.”

It later transpired that he had suffered a rib injury which will also prevent him from dancing alongside the rest of the returning celebrities tonight as he continues to recover.
