The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first official engagement during their royal tour of southern Africa has been a brilliant success.

The royals visited the Nyanga township, where they were met by representatives from The Justice Desk, an organization that promotes women’s and children’s rights, and provides empowerment training throughout the community.

The Justice Desk’s executive director, Jessica Dewhurst, revealed to BAZAAR.com that during the visit, Meghan and Harry were presented with a special gift for their son, baby Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, which included a traditional South African Xhosa name for the little royal.

Of the special gift, Dewhurst said, “It was a beautiful frame with a hand-drawn meaning written underneath the name—and a little rhino because Harry loves them.”

Discussing Archie’s name, Dewhurst also told BAZAAR.com, “The name Ntsika means pillar of strength and is a traditional South African Xhosa name picked by the local township gogos (grandmothers). Ntsika is the equivalent to Archie, which means bravery and strength, so it just seemed like a perfect fit.”

Tweeting a video clip of the moment, BAZAAR.com‘s royal editor-at-large, Omid Scobie, revealed, “The @TheJusticeDesk present Harry and Meghan with a South African Xhosa name for Archie—’Ntsika’ which means pillar of strength. The name was chosen by the township’s Gogo’s (grandmother’s).”

Explaining the significance of Archie’s gift, Dewhurst told BAZAAR.com, “It’s quite traditional for foreign visitors to township communities to be given a South African name. South Africa is the cradle of mankind, this is where the human race began, so we are all children of this country.”

She continued, “Harry and Meghan loved the fact they brought Archie here and they can’t wait for him to see more of the country. We gave him one of our Justice Desk hoodies and also adult sizes for Harry and Meghan. They loved it.”
