Ariana Grande’s Single ‘Positions’ Tops Both of Justin Bieber’s Recent Hits on iTunes

Singer Ariana Grande dropped the lead single off her sixth studio album, Positions, on October 23, 2020. The song, also named “Positions,” debuted with impressive sales, reaching the top of the U.S. iTunes chart immediately. She took the spot from her friend, Justin Bieber. Scooter Braun manages Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber

Bieber rose to prominence after music manager Scooter Braun discovered him in 2007. In 2013, Grande, then an actor best known for the sitcom Victorious, signed with Braun’s management company to launch her music career. Both artists have remained with Braun since, aside from a brief stint in which Grande fired Braun.

Braun is known for having his clients work with one another. Grande opened for Bieber in 2013. Bieber performed at One Love Manchester, Grande’s 2017 benefit concert. After taking some time off, Bieber joined Grande during her 2019 Coachella set, which encouraged him to get back into music.

Their duet, ‘Stuck with U,’ performed well

Though they knew one another, Grande and Bieber didn’t work together on a song until May 2020. Amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, they teamed up for a charity single about staying indoors, with proceeds going toward the families of first responders. They also dropped a socially distant music video.

“Stuck with U” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes, remaining in the top spot for nearly a week. It remained in the top 25 throughout the month and dropped out of the top 100 in September 2020. “Stuck with U” was nominated for a couple of awards, winning Best Music Video From Home at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.

Bieber released 2 singles in Fall 2020

Bieber’s stayed busy since “Stuck with U” dropped. Following his fifth studio album Changes, released in February 2020, he got to work on his next one. Bieber released “Holy,” a collaboration with Chance the Rapper, in September, and noted that it was the beginning of a “new era” for him.

“Holy” debuted at No. 1 on iTunes and has remained in the top 20 ever since. Bieber then dropped “Lonely” with Benny Blanco on October 15. It debuted at No. 4 and steadily climbed up the chart until October 22, when it made it to the No. 1 spot, ousting “Holy.” But then came “Positions.”

The 2 artists held the top 3 spots on iTunes

Videographer Alfredo Flores, who works with both Grande and Bieber, shared a screenshot of iTunes after “Positions” dropped. The single made it to the top of the chart in record time. “Lonely” shifted down to No. 2, while “Holy” came in at No. 3, meaning Braun’s clients held the top 3 spots on the platform.

“Smiling so hard,” wrote Flores on Twitter, calling himself a “proud a** friend.” Braun shared the same image, writing, “1 2 3 .. all in the family.” With Grande’s album due out on October 30 and Bieber already releasing singles and teasing his next one, it looks like a good time to be a part of Braun’s team.
