Amal Clooney Reinvents the Trench Coat for Fall

Amal Clooney is serving up some serious fall style inspiration while in New York. For her latest look, the human rights attorney put a fresh twist on the classic trench coat and experimented with some of the season’s hottest color trends.

Ditching the jacket’s signature tan hue, Amal opted for a two-tone trench featuring yellow panels and sleeves. Underneath, she wore a boatneck sheath dress in one of Fall 2019’s biggest color trends: purple—which contrasted the yellow of her jacket. To accessorize, she wore a black pair of Versace sunglasses, a black tote bag, and pointed toe pumps—plus a coffee cup that was somehow just as chic.

More important than her copy-worthy fall outfits, however, is the work Clooney has been doing while she’s in New York. Last week, she visited the United Nations to deliver a powerful speech advocating for the safety and rights of journalists. Urging the UN to investigate the death of journalists, she called attention to the ongoing laws and hate speech vilifying members of the press.

“Our research targets laws being used every day to punish journalists for their work,” Clooney said. “Laws like criminal libel, vague or overboard hate speech laws, so-called fake news laws, and laws that muzzle the media by imposing arbitrary conditions on ownership, accreditation and funding.”
