The copy of John Lennon and Yoko Ono‘s Double Fantasy that Lennon signed for his killer, Mark David Chapman, is up for sale at auction.

Goldin Auctions, which is handling the sale, has set the minimum price for the record which features the ex-Beatle’s autograph and the year 1980, at $400,000. The bidding opened on Monday (November 23).

The copy comes with a letter of authenticity, with police evidence markings on the front and back sides of the jacket.

Chapman asked for Lennon’s autograph on his copy of Double Fantasy on December 8, 1980 as the legend was leaving his apartment at the Dakota in New York. Lennon signed the copy, and when he returned back after a session at the Record Plant six hours later, Chapman fatally shot him.

According to the listing by the auction house, Chapman had placed the record in a planter next to the Dakota, and it was later discovered by someone who turned it into the police, then stored it under his bed for 18 years upon return.

The album was first sold in 1999 for $150,000, and then changed hands in 2003 and 2010, fetching $850,000. The LP went back on sale in 2017 with an asking price of $1.5 million.
