Adam Driver Thanks Fans For Donating Over $55,000 To His Non-Profit

Between The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, there’s obviously been no shortage of arguments from movie-to-movie and even from minute-to-minute between Star Wars fans. One thing essentially every fan of the franchise agrees on, though, is the inarguable quality of the performance that Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in all three films, gives. And as a result, Star Wars fans—particularly those from the /r/StarWarsLeaks subreddit—have decided to give back to Driver, and have banded together to raise more than $50,000 for his nonprofit, Arts In The Armed Forces.

The GoFundMe, which as of this moment shows more than $55,000 in donations, has a message from the person who started it, named Matt The Radar Technician (Kylo Ren’s alias in a memorable SNL skit):

After learning of this, Driver—who isn’t on social media himself—posted a video to the @AITAF Twitter to thank the fans who cared enough to donate. “It means a whole lot to me that this thing exists, and that so many people have participated in it,” he says in the message. “Not only did you buy a ticket to see the movie, but now you’re also giving money on top of it to this organization that I deeply care about, so I just wanted to take a moment from me to you to say: thank you very much.”

The goal of Arts In The Armed Forces, which Driver founded with his now-wife Joanne Tucker back in 2006, is to bring high-quality arts programming to active-duty members of the armed forces, free of charge. This includes stage productions, film screenings, internships, and more. Major actors, like Mark Ruffalo, Keegan Michael Key, Lawrence Fishburne, Keri Russell (fellow Star Wars star!), and Natasha Lyonne have been just a few of the countless performers in AITAF productions, which have been occurring multiple times per year since 2008.

In 2019, they staged productions of Lobby Hero and True West, among others both of which recently had runs on Broadway.
