A$AP Rocky presents Tyler, the Creator top honor after past beef

A$AP Rocky presented fellow rapper Tyler, the Creator with a prestigious honor at MoMA on Wednesday night — but he recalled there was once bad blood between them.

“It’s an honor to present this award to my best friend today, but little do y’all know that I hate that motherf–ker, that’s the truth,” ASAP Rocky joked at the WSJ. Magazine 2019 Innovator Awards. He then admitted, “He’s one of my inspirations … [and] people don’t know this, but when we first came into the rap game, we didn’t even like each other. Our crews didn’t like each other.”

For the uninitiated: Rocky comes from New York’s rap unit A$AP Mob, while Tyler is associated with the LA collective Odd Future. Their crews’ feud flared in 2011 when Tyler reportedly commented online about a video directed by Rocky: “The term Video Director is thrown around very loosely [nowadays].”

After further verbal provocations by Tyler, Rocky said in a 2013 interview, “He has his opinions and he’s entitled to them, so it’s whatever.”

But by 2015, they were on tour together and collaborating on music.

Tyler was named the night’s Music Innovator.
