The Anastasia Beverly Hills Jackie Aina Palette Just Launched, and I’m in My Feelings

Jackie Aina is a YouTube influencer that has been championing diversity in the beauty community since 2009, so when I heard that she was releasing a palette with Anastasia Beverly Hills, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. I’ve been a subscriber since college and I knew that the Anastasia Beverly Hills Jackie Aina Palette ($45) would complement dark skin tones, like my own.

Aina uses her platform to advocate for deeper skin tones and pushes for brands to be inclusive with shade ranges and pigments for women of color, so it came as no surprise to see the palette full of rich colors like greens, reds, browns, and even purple that would complement dark skin. I rarely buy eye shadow palettes with non-neutral colors, but Aina’s palette gives me the best of both worlds with shades ranging from neutrals to bright, and finishes including both mattes and shimmers.

Aina’s product is similar to other Anastasia Beverly Hills eye shadow palettes in that the formula is buttery smooth and the colors are incredibly pigmented and buildable. Both the matte and shimmer shades are so saturated that one to two layers will show up on the skin. I did notice fallout while blending, but it was minimal, so I recommend applying some baking powder underneath your eyes before applying the eye shadow. It will catch any fallout so that you can easily sweep away any excess powder.

As for the color selection, the shades range from browns, purples, greens, reds, to hues of gold. It gives me options to play with different colors that I can wear to work, a night out, or both. My favorite shades is “Ginger”, which is a perfect nude for my medium-brown complexion. Sometimes I find it difficult to find nude shades for my skin tone because it either doesn’t show up or it’s not “nude” for me, but “Ginger” blended in perfectly. Another one of my favorites is “Dwollahs,” a gorgeous olive shade (which indeed made me feel super expensive). I never dreamed of wearing green eye shadow, but this made me a believer. The color payoff was amazing and did not take a lot of layers for the pigment to appear on my skin. Most importantly, the formula did not get patchy as I layered it with other shades, blending effortlessly together.

The beauty about this palette is that it provides a great range of rich colors and textures that worked with my skin tone. I’m so pumped to dig into shades I would normally shy away from, like the shimmery reds and purples, because I know Aina created them with me in mind. Whether I want to do the most with my makeup or keep it subtle and cute, this palette is good for people who want to take risks and look bomb while doing it.
